Official End of Life Announcement - 2008-09-06
It is with a heavy heart that we finally announce the "End of Life" of D2CKey, which is no longer being manufactured. We would like to thank everyone for their support since launch, and also to assure everyone who has bought D2CKey that support will still be available via the feedback form should you need it. This website will also remain online for reference. For those who have not yet purchased a Wii modchip, we recommend d2pro or d2lite
New d2c chip in the wild, dumped by d2ckey team - 2008-05-05
We received the first drive with the new d2c chip on yesterday and we can confirm that is indeed different. We have dumped the firmware and are just starting to analyze it. It seems that nr reader mode has been disabled in this firmware (see nice screenshot of firmware disassembly).
Updateability of D2CKey using d2prog - 2008-03-04
Since the announcement of the new d2prog programming device on d2pro.com, we have received a lot of emails from people asking us about the updatability of D2CKey. We would like to respond by saying that although D2CKey is technically updateable, and compatible with d2prog, we have never published updatability as a feature of D2CKey. That said, if any issues with D2CKey do arise in the future, we will endeavor to provide an update now that the d2prog device has been made available. However, due to the way that D2CKey interacts with the drive, there is not much that can be changed via an update. Please keep in mind that D2CKey has proven incredibly versatile and reliable to date, and an update has not been necessary thus far. Some people have also asked us whether or not a D2CKey can be upgraded to a d2pro: The simple answer to this is that it cannot, due to the extra hardware components d2pro includes. D2CKey and d2pro are physically different chips. One final note: If you have a D2CKey already installed in your console, you are not missing out on anything! If you have a D2CKey which hasn't been installed yet, all this means is that you have some extra wires to solder. It will still do everything that a d2pro can do once installed!
